Prickly Pear Festival in San Cono
The prickly pear festival is an event of great importance for the village of San Cono. It is an event born in 1984 and which is celebrated every year on the first Sunday of October, which celebrates the magnificence of the typical San Conese fruit, the bastardone.
During the festival, people from throughout Sicily, stands are set up where the fruit is exhibited and sold; a corner is then set up where you can taste the fruit for free or other rare artisan specialties based on prickly pears, such as ice cream for example.
The intensive production of figs d'India of San Cono began after the Second World War, gradually increasing the quantity of product and refining the production techniques, and has now become the leading economic activity, so much so that the town proudly defines itself city of the prickly pear.
