Marine Protected Area of Ustica
The Marine Protected Area of Ustica extends for over 15,000 hectares and is a paradise for divers and sea lovers.
It was established in 1986, it is the first protected marine reserve in Italy, and was wanted by the same local fishermen in order to protect a sea that is unique in the world and its biodiversity.
The clarity of the sea, the richness and variety of marine fauna and flora, the particular shapes assumed by the volcanic rocks make the seabed unique in the world of the sea of Ustica. Among the species that can be found in the sea of Ustica we remember: the Posidonia oceanica, the brown grouper, tuna, amberjacks, snappers, barracudas, occhiate, octopus and lobsters.
