Quattropani Church in Lipari
The Old Church of Quattropani in Lipari is the name by which the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima della Catena is known, located in the Quattropani hamlet where historically the devotion to the Holy Virgin is handed down . The Sanctuary has in fact been the destination of numerous pilgrimages, as documented by the registers of prayers to grant the pleas that are found inside the Sanctuary.
It was built in 1588 in honor of the Madonna della Catena, although a building dedicated to worship di Maria was already present in Quattropani.
The façade is simple and bare with a bell tower set above the entrance portal, while inside there are some works of interesee: the "Holy Virgin with Child", an oil painting on canvas from the 18th century, and the wooden statue of the Madonna della Catena also from the 18th century.
It is an enchanting place surrounded by unspoiled nature from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view.
To reach the sanctuary they are it takes about twenty minutes to walk from the bus stop.
