Termal Baths of San Calogero in Lipari
The Terme di San Calogero are a thermal area that rises a few kilometers away from the main inhabited hamlets of Lipari. The site has very ancient origins as its thermal springs and their therapeutic and curative properties were known since the times of the Greeks and Romans. An ancient Thòlos of Mycenaean origin was found in the area which suggests the use of thermal waters since the 15th century BC. According to some historical texts, including the Bibliotheca historica by the Greek Diodorus Siculus , the Terme di San Calogero would be the oldest spa complex in the Mediterranean Sea.
