Cavallo Cave in Vulcano
The Grotta del Cavallo, also known as Grotta dell'Eremita, is located in the western part of the island of Vulcano.
It is a natural rocky cove with four entrances, one of which is now underground , and can be walked on thanks to the light reflected at the entrance from a natural siphon. The cave has a vaulted conformation and presents galleries, wells, ponds and formations of stalactites, stalagmites and cannulae.
It is called the Horse Cave as a boulder on the end of the cave seems to resemble a horse's head.
The Grotta del Cavallo can only be reached by sea. Just adjacent to the entrance to the cave is the Venus Pool.
