Turtle Recovery Center in Lampedusa
The Turtle Recovery Center in Lampedusa helps about one hundred turtles every year. Most of these turtles are accidentally caught with hooks with longlines or trawls, while others are caught or illegally hunted . They arrive at this hospital thanks to the precious collaboration of local fishermen, tourists and with the support of the Italian Coast Guard, the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza.
The recovery program includes the rescue, tagging, release and monitoring of turtles released.
The turtle hospital is open to the public for short visits.
