Rabbit Beach in Lampedusa
The Spiaggia dei Conigli in Lampedusa, located along the south-western side of the island, is considered the most beautiful beach in Europe and among the most beautiful in the world. It is a beach with a coastline made up of soft white and very fine sand, set along a coast almost devoid of vegetation and surrounded by a splendid and uncontaminated landscape, made even more suggestive by the presence of islet of Rabbits which emerges right in front of the beach. The sandy bottom remains low for a very long stretch from the shore. The waters that bathe the coast are rather warm, but their peculiar characteristic is the exceptional clarity and transparency. This stretch of coast, which also includes the nearby Tabaccara beach, is in fact known as the bay of flying boats because the sea that bathes it is of such a brightness and transparency that, seeing the bay from the cliff, the water seems not to be there and the boats that stop appear as if suspended in the air.
