Caronia Castle
Caronia Castle dominates
the surrounding landscape and is certainly the most important
among the monuments of the city.
Its construction dates back to the 12th century, probably in the Norman era
by King Roger. Today is
private property and is one of the best preserved buildings
of Norman architecture in Sicily.
A chapel belongs to the Castle which enjoys a rather rare characteristic: it is in fact one of the very few examples in Sicily of Norman chapels with three naves, which recalls the scheme of the Chapel of Palermo Cathedral.
