Aquarium of Messina
Chiuso temporaneamente
The Messina Aquarium, together with the Naples aquarium, is the only scientific structure of this kind in southern Italy.
It was built inside the Villa Mazzini at the beginning of the 60s by the Thalassographic Institute of Messina, today it is managed by CeSPOM, Center for the Study of Spontaneous Pathologies of Marine Organisms.
In the structure there are about 70 different species of fish, molluscs, crustaceans and reptiles of the Mediterranean housed in 22 tanks, fed in an open circuit with sea water taken directly from the Strait of Messina.
