Milazzo Sea Museum
The Milazzo Sea Museum, MuMa, inaugurated on 9 August 2019, is located inside the Fortified Citadel of Milazzo and was born from the tragic story of a Sperm Whale, called Siso, who in the summer of 2017 died off the Aeolian Islands, in due to an illegal fishing net.
During the recovery operation, a lot of plastic was extracted from the belly of the cetacean and after a long cleaning and treatment process, thanks to the initiative of the Milazzo biologist Carmelo Isgrò, the idea of creating a museum was born. The exhibition to the public aims to raise awareness so that the tragedy of the sperm whale Siso can lead to a moment of reflection and growth for everyone, adults and children.
