Monforte Marina
Monforte Marina is the seaside hamlet of Monforte San Giorgio. It is located along the national road that connects Messina to Palermo.
The main attraction of this small village is the Monforte Marina beach, characterized by fine light sand and a seabed sloping towards the sea.< br> Inside the village there are some deifices dating back to the end of the nineteenth century. Of particular importance is the Casino, i.e. the summer residence of the Moncada princes, located in the main square of the village. Originally, next to the building, there stood a small church dedicated to Santa Rosalia, heavily damaged by the 1908 earthquake and which has now become a private residence. In 1935, today's Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was built next to the old church.
The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in neoclassical style, is characterized by a facade bordered by a pair of pilasters with Corinthian capitals that define the entrance to the church and support the pediment, crowning the façade, decorated with a serrated frame that surrounds the entire perimeter. The portal opens in the centre, delimited by pilasters with Corinthian capitals which support an entablature, above which rests a tympanum with a broken curved perimeter which encloses a lunette window.
The interior, with a single nave, houses a valuable wooden statue of modern workmanship.
