The Porta Terra in Monforte San Giorgio, with an ogival arch, is one of the few remaining testimonies of the ancient Swabian city walls of the town, built by Frederick II and enlarged under Frederick III of Aragon between 1296 and 1336. Between the Church Madre and Porta Terra a series of streets lead to the old Rione Costeri and to the Rione Castello, where the ancient village intra moenia developed.
