Church of San Giorgio - Auditorium in Novara di Sicilia
The Church of San Giorgio Megalomartire in Novara di Sicilia is now used as an auditorium of the village.
The original church, which existed before 1479, was erected in honor of San Giorgio, the special protector of the Normans who introduced his cult in the village. It is certain that the Confraternity of San Giorgio Patron was already active in it in the 15th century.
The facade has three portals of considerable artistic value that reflect the sumptuousness of the interior.
The interior is divided into three naves 12 monolithic columns in the Corinthian style. All the architectural elements, columns, capitals, arches, friezes and decorations are in local sandstone, with the exception of the elements of the two side altars made in stucco, in the late Baroque style.
