Church of San Basilio in San Marco D'Alunzio
The Church of San Basilio in San Marco D'Alunzio is a sacred building of medieval origin.
The date of construction of the church is not known, it is certain that the original structure dates back to the medieval period and that a new sacred building was rebuilt in the eighteenth century.
The remains of a loggia with pointed arches and valuable Byzantine frescoes date back to the ancient structure and are now included in the museographic circuit of the Museum of Byzantine and Norman Culture and Figurative Arts of San Marco D'Alunzio.
The simple gabled façade, made of stone, has a single portal surmounted by a window. The bell tower closes the facade of the church on the right side in a prominent position.
The interior, with a single nave, houses the valuable wooden statue of San Basilio Magno, protector of San Marco d'Alunzio, dating back to the 17th century and commissioned by Li Volsi family from Tusa.
