Venetico

Venetico is a small village overlooking the Tyrrhenian coast.
Venetico Marina is a renowned seaside resort thanks to its long and splendid beach which offers a splendid panorama of the Aeolian Islands.
Venetico Superiore is instead an ancient and suggestive village perched on the slopes of the Peloritani Mountains. The first news of the town dates back to the Middle Ages when the town consisted of four families and a tavern. It reached its maximum splendor under the reign of the Spatafora and in the 15th century the Castle of Venetico was built which still today, although reduced to ruins due to the violent earthquake of 1908, dominates the ancient town.

What to see

The Castle of Venetico, which with its imposing mass dominates the town, is the symbolic monument of the village.
There are numerous religious buildings that characterize the village of Venetico: the 18th century Church of Santa Caterina; the Church of Sant'Anna, in baroque style, built in 1662; the Church of the Immaculate Conception dating back to 1618; the Mother Church of San Nicolò, dating back to the 16th century, and custodian of valuable works of art; the Church of the Souls of Purgatory, destroyed and abandoned after the 1908 earthquake, recently reopened for worship; the ruins of the Church of Jesus and Mary, only the external walls remain; the San Luigi Oratory, built on the remains of the ancient Church of Calvario destroyed by the 1908 earthquake; the spirituality center Notre Dame de Lourdes which stands in a splendid panoramic point.
Of particular value is the monumental fountain located in the square in front of the Church of San Nicola built in the seventeenth century.

The hamlet of Venetico Marina, where the Church of the Madonna del Carmelo and the Madonna delle Grazie are located, is a seaside resort much appreciated for its beach.

Traditional Festivals, Events, Live Show,... Venetico

Among the festivals that animate the small village of Ventico are the Harvest Festival, which takes place in September, and the Spring Festival.
Among the religious festivals we remember the Festival of San Nicolò Vescovo, patron saint of Venetico Superiore , which takes place in December and the Feast of the Madonna del Monte Carmelo, patron saint of Venetico Marina, which takes place in July.

What to eat

Typical food, local wines and drinks, traditional dish to taste in Venetico

You can obviously taste all the typical products of Sicilian cuisine, the most well-known ones, such as cannoli, Sicilian cassata, arancini, etc. But there are some specialties typical of this area that are more difficult to find in other areas of Sicily.

The hamlet of Venetico Marina is mainly dedicated to close-by coastal fishing: fresh fish-based dishes are the local specialities.
Venetico Superiore, on the other hand, focuses its economy mainly on agriculture. Olives, grapes and citrus fruits are grown.
