Toy and Wax Museum in Bagheria
The Museum of Toys and Waxes of Pietro Piraino in Bagheria was founded by the will of the master Pietro Piraino in 1994.
The museum deals with the research, restoration, cataloging and conservation of old toys and games .
The museum has a multimedia room with frescoes by Velasquez, an educational room, a workshop for the restoration of wax sculptures, wooden statues, nativity scenes, old toys, a book shop and a coffee shop. The museum houses about 100 wax sculptures, made by Sicilian and Neapolitan artists of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and about 1600 toys, including 600 dolls. Of great value are the mignonettes from Germany. The dolls, made of porcelain, wax, papier-mâché, felt and celluloid, date back to the period between the 2nd century BC. and 1900. Of particular interest is the section dedicated to dolls' houses where it is possible to observe the changes in furnishings over time.
