Cattolica villa in Bagheria
Villa Cattolica, which rises on the outskirts of Bagheria, today houses the Renato Guttuso museum.
The villa, built in 1736 at the behest of the Prince of Cattolica, Eraclea, features Baroque architecture with 365 openings , one for each day of the year.
The building has a quadrangular shape with two parallel exedras. From one of the exedras the baroque double flight staircase leads to the upper floor, from the second it is possible to observe a large terrace with an underlying loggia.
In the northern exedra there is the monumental sarcophagus, designed by the sculptor Giacomo Manzù, who welcomes the remains of Guttuso, facing the sea as per the artist's will.
