Cathedral of Caccamo
The Mother Church of Caccamo , dedicated to San Giorgio , is located on the wide and panoramic Piazza Duomo. It is leaning against the cliff of the castle on one side and supported downstream by mighty arches resting on ramparts.
The interior of the cathedral, with three naves and a Latin cross, is spectacular and preserves works of considerable value: the canvas by Mattia Stomer depicting the Miracle of San Isidoro Agricola from 1641; a marble altar with embedded semiprecious stones, surmounted by an interesting ciborium with marble high-reliefs of the Gagini school dating back to the 15th century; the baptismal font in white marble located next to the high altar; and the architrave of the entrance to the sacristy with delicate bas-reliefs by Francesco Laurana.
