Tower of the Duke of Salaparuta in Casteldaccia
The Tower of the Duke of Salaparuta in Casteldaccia is the symbolic monument of the city as well as the oldest.
It is believed that its construction dates back to 1400 and represented the watchtower of the baglio which included warehouses, stables and which served as shelter and defense for men, animals, work tools and products of the land.
It was a fortified structure aimed at protecting the population, as evidenced by the battlements placed on the top of the entrance tower to the castle typical of the medieval military architecture.
The main access to the Castle of the Duke of Salaparuta is through an arch that overlooks the main square of the city, on whose vault there is a fresco that was preserved until present day.
