Church of Purgatory in Ciminna



The Church of Purgatory in Ciminna, formerly the Church of San Pietro, is an ancient place of worship in the village. It stands in Piazza Umberto I, of which it represents the important architectural element.
The date of construction of the church is not known but it is certain that it existed in 1468. Originally it was a meeting place for the jurors and all the citizens. It was made sacramental on 18 April 1795.
The simple gabled façade has a portal with a round arch surmounted by a circular window. The bell tower has a roof with colored majolica.
The venerable Unione del Miseremini, the brotherhood of SS. Crispin and Crispiniano and that of Maria SS. Sorrowful.
