Pozzillo Tower in Cinisi

Torre Pozzillo in Cinisi is a coastal defense tower that was part of the sighting system of the coastal towers of Sicily.
It was in visual connection with the Torre Alba, with Torre Mulinazzo and with the Torre della Tonnara dell'Ursa to the west, with Torre Muzza and Torre della Tonnara di Carini, then again with Torre Milioti and Torre Ciachea di Carini to the east.
It was presumably built starting from the first half of the 1600s, as it was not surveyed in 1578 and 1625 it was not yet completed.
The tower has an escarpment base with freestone edges. Inside, the first floor consisted of three rectangular rooms. In the largest, covered by barrel vaults, there is a fireplace and a built-in wardrobe. In the central wall is the well that allowed to draw water from the cistern below. A stone staircase formed by two ramps built into the external south-east wall leads to the roof.
Torre Pozzillo is state property, unfortunately it cannot be visited since it has been walled up.
