Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Corleone
The Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Corleone is a small place of worship that stands at the foot of the Rocca Soprana. In ancient times, in a position adjacent to the church, stood the medieval entrance gate to the town: the gate of San Michele.
The presence of a religious building in this place is attested starting from 1558. The current building dates back to the end from 1700, and is believed to have been built following a seismic event that damaged the original structure.
The building has an eighteenth-century architectural layout, with a large staircase and a hall with a semicircular apse, and typical elements of neoclassicism such as the curved corner ends connected through large pilasters. The façade is surmounted by a small belfry, also with curved lines.
The interior is decorated with simple stucco work.
