Civic Museum in Corleone
The Civic Museum of Corleone , established in 1991, is named after the Corleonese painter belonging to the Futurist movement Pippo Rizzo.
The museum is housed in a building located in the city center belonging to the Provenzano family and dating back to mid 19th century. The palace has a cushion-vaulted interior decorated with paintings, stuccoes and majolica floors.
The Pippo Rizzo museum mainly collects the archaeological finds found during the excavations carried out in the archaeological site of the Old Mountain. Also exhibited are objects and remains belonging to the period ranging from the Paleolithic to the Middle Ages. The most valuable piece kept in the museum is the Miliarum, that is the ancient stone that certifies the LVII miles that separated Agrigento from the site. To make this piece very precious is the epigraph "Aurelio Cotta Consul" which helps us to date this testimony to 252 BC.
