Sanctuary of Maria SS. Sorrowful in Corleone
The Sanctuary of Maria SS. Addolorata in Corleone is located adjacent to the Via della Croce which leads to Monte Calvario.
It was built in the 18th century, at the behest of the priest Don Giuseppe Toscano.
The church stands on a rock ridge and is therefore raised above the road surface to which it is connected via a staircase.
In the simple façade the bronze portal stands out on which scenes of Mary's pain are depicted.
The building has an octagonal plan with a floor in Billiemi marble dating back to the 19th century.
Among the works kept inside the church, worthy of note are: the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows dating back to 1750; an eighteenth-century Crucifix; an oil on canvas of the Virgin of Sorrows and angels dating back to 1784, the work of Giuseppe Genzardi.
