Church of S. Maria di tutti le Grazie in Mezzojuso
The Church of S. Maria di tutti le Grazie in Mezzojuso is a Greek-Byzantine rite church located close to the Basilian Monastery.
In 1501 the already existing church was entrusted to the Greek - Albanians who arrived in Mezzojuso at the end of the XV century, with the obligation to repair it and restore the cult. A confraternity dedicated to Santa Maria di tutti le Grazie was founded, which had the task of caring for and governing the church until 1650. It was then transferred to the Basilian monastery built next to it.
On the outside, on the side façade, of particular a marble side portal, decorated with a double-headed eagle on a red field, is of value.
Among the works kept inside we find: the mausoleum of Andrea Reres, an Albanian nobleman to whom we owe the construction of the Basilian monastery; the iconostasis which contains precious 16th century icons; a Platytèra of Cretan origin; a finely carved boxwood Athonite cross; medallions painted on the side walls of the nave by Olivio Sozzi.
