Ecomuseum Mare Memoria Viva in Palermo
Mare Memoria Viva is an ecomuseum that recounts the urban and social transformations of Palermo from the post-war period to today through testimonies, stories, images and memories linked to the sea of the city.
The ecomuseum is housed in the former Sant'Erasmo Locomotive Depot, a late 19th-century structure at the end of the Palermo-Corleone narrow gauge line, now disused. The idea of an ecomuseum is based on "a pact between citizens who decide to take care of a territory": a collective museum whose "collection" is an audiovisual archive in constant progress with photographs, videos, interviews, documents, testimonies, maps that make up a collective history of the urban and social transformations of the city from the post-war period to today.
