La Cala of Palermo
The Cala di Palermo is a small cove located in the heart of the city.
In ancient times, this natural inlet was greatly appreciated by the Phoenicians, around which they founded the city of Palermo. At that time it was the outlet of two rivers, the Kemonia and the Papireto which were subsequently diverted for logistical reasons. For a long time, the Cala di Palermo was the main port of the city, until the port area was expanded to the west, with the current port of S. Lucia. The cove extends from the ancient fortress of Castello a mare to the Foro Italico and hosts dozens of small and medium-sized boats every day, as well as several lounge bars that have made it a very welcome evening meeting for Palermo people.
