Villa Zito Picture Gallery in Palermo
The Pinacoteca Villa Zito in Palermo is housed in the premises of the homonymous Vila.
The Villa was built in the 18th century by Gaspare Scichili, and subsequently passed to the princes of Carini. Transformed in 1891 according to a classical neo-sixteenth century style, it was further modernized in 1906 when it passed to Francesco Zito. The façade was redone with rusticated courses, openings underlined by aedicule decorations and side terraces.
The villa, purchased a few years later from the Banco di Sicilia, it is now owned by the Sicily Foundation and houses a rich library. The exhibition spaces are dedicated to the conservation and public display of the pictorial collections and a selection of graphic works. The Pinacoteca exhibits works of art, created between the '600 and' 800, by authors of a certain caliber: from Salvator Rosa to Mattia Preti, from Renato Guttuso to Mario Schifano passing through Michele Catti, Francesco Lo Jacono, Mario Sironi, Filippo De Pisis, Carlo Carrà ... The Pinacoteca extends over an area of one thousand square meters spread over three floors. It is also equipped with a multimedia room.
