Church of Maria Santissima Annunziata in Partinico
The church of Maria Santissima Annunziata, located in the cathedral square, is the Mother Church of Partinico.
The original layout was built between 1552 and 1570, next to a pre-existing tower which assumed the functions of a bell tower. It was enlarged in 1639 with the addition of the two side naves. In 1719 the old tower was demolished and construction of the current bell tower began. In 1777 the church was further lengthened to form the Latin cross: the chapel of the Crucifix was built in the right horn of the dome, the chapel of Maria Santissima del Ponte in the left one.
Inside the Mother Church there are various works by value: a large canvas of "L'Assunta" of 1579, executed by Antonino Spatafora known as "Il Panormita"; four 17th century Lombard school paintings, "St. Magdalene in prayer", "Santa Rosalia in ecstasy", "Sant'Agata" and "Santa Caterina".
