Sanctuary of Our Lady of Light in Roccapalumba
The Sanctuary of the Madonna della Luce in Roccapalumba is a place very dear to the inhabitants of the village. It stands at the foot of the Rocca di Roccapalumba, from which you can enjoy a splendid view of the valley.
The original structure was built in the second half of the 17th century but today only a few ruins remain set between the walls of the large and of the monolith: the ruins of the apse with two niches, some majolica on the floor and the trap door that led to the crypt. The current, larger building was built at the end of the 1950s.
According to legend, the church stands in the place where the image of the Virgin and Child was found, today kept in a niche in the altar largest inside the Sanctuary.
