Staircase of Via Roma in Termini Imerese
The stairway of Via Roma in Termini Imerese is a monumental stairway built at the end of the 19th century which connects the lower part of the city with the upper one.
The monumental stairway consists of steps arranged in a triple row. The central row is wider and staggered than the two sides. The flooring is made with marine pebbles delimited by small flagstones arranged to form a geometric design reminiscent of a fishbone.
Some historic buildings overlook it including the medieval tower and the Jesuit College, now used as a Tribunal.
On the occasion of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a suggestive procession takes place in this stairway during which the procession slowly descends the entire stairway.
