Sanctuary of the Virgin of Gulfi in Chiaramonte Gulfi
The interdiocesan shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Gulfi is a Marian shrine located in a green valley at the foot of the village of Chiaramonte Gulfi, at the ancient site of the town, once called Gulfi.
The shrine is dedicated to the Virgin of Gulfi, Main Patroness and Queen of Chiaramonte Gulfi ad immemorabilis. Every year the Sanctuary is the destination of many pilgrims.
The church in its current form has an eighteenth-century bell tower and facade, the work of Benedetto Cultraro. The interior, with five altars, was decorated with stuccos in the 19th century.
In the sanctuary the marble statue of a Madonna with Child, known as the Virgin of Gulfi, is venerated, on whose find a legend.
