Church of Gesù in Comiso
The Church of Gesù di Comiso , also known as Church of San Filippo Neri, forms together with the annexed Oratory of the Filippini and the church of the Annunziata, although divided into , almost a single architectural-monumental complex.
The church of Gesù has a painted wooden ceiling of considerable value. San Filippo Neri is depicted with his friend San Felice da Cantalice. In the central part of the ceiling the space expands into the painted squares, where angels facing false balustrades offer flowers or hold ribbons. The interior of the dome seems to open to discover the monogram of Christ and the glory of San Filippo Neri, accompanied by four doctors of the church. In the last square Pope Gregory XIII officially recognizes the work done by the Saint.
In the upper part of the church you can see the rooms of the original side chapels and traces of ancient decorations.
