Mormino Penna Palace in Donnalucata
Palazzo Mormino Penna is a nineteenth-century neo-gothic style palace located in the locality of Donnalucata.
It was built in the nineteenth century, at the behest of the Penna di Scicli family. The building remained in the family until the second post-war period when it was sold to the Municipality of Scicli. The building was built in limestone typical of the Ragusa area. The bright red color was chosen for the external walls and the whole building was surrounded by a garden planted with typical Mediterranean plants. The garden was in turn enclosed by iron bars, but this fence was rebuilt in masonry during the Second World War due to the need for iron at the time.
The noble floor of the building consists of a large central hall and from four smaller side rooms and is often used to host exhibitions and other events. In the outdoor garden, a playground for children has been created, an open space which in summer hosts an open-air cinema, and a city park.
