Conversation Circle in Ragusa
The Circolo di Conversazione di Ragusa , also known as Caffè dei Cavalieri , located in Ragusa Ibla, is a rare example of a building built specifically for this purpose.
L ' building was built in 1850 in neoclassical style by the city aristocracy , in order to have a special place where you can chat and spend time.
The façade, which develops on one floor, has three doors framed by six fluted pilasters with Doric capitals. The cornice is decorated with triglyphs and in correspondence with the doors it has three bas-reliefs with two winged women holding a lamp and two sphinxes on the sides. In the center is the sign of the building, decorated with the coat of arms of the city, flanked by two anthropomorphic lions and surrounded by a garland of flowers.
The sumptuous ballroom shows a ceiling frescoed by Tino Del Campo from Ragusa at the end of the 'Nineteenth century, with an allegory of the arts and sciences and four medallions at the corners depicting Dante, Michelangelo, Galileo and Vincenzo Bellini. Mirrors with gilt frames, red damask sofas, red silk on the walls, curtains and a large copper chandelier complete the furnishings.
The other rooms are dedicated to playing and reading.
An internal garden makes the environment one of the most pleasant and exclusive in the city.
