Sortino Trono Palace a Ragusa
The Palazzo Sortino Trono di Ragusa is one of the noble palaces of the city.
It was built at the behest of Don Ignazio Sortino Trono, in 1778, on some houses of his family and, probably, on part of the walls of the ancient castle.
The imposing facade overlooks the Piazza degli Archi and overlooks the balcony called "cianu re Signuri", accessible via a steep staircase from the underlying Via del Mercato. The two floors are separated by a stone band while five large pilasters ending with a festooned capital divide the surface into four sectors. In the last part on the right is the large entrance portal, slightly convex, which supports a balcony with a somewhat linear frame made of limestone with inlays in pitch stone. The three side balconies have large shelves in pitch stone carved with plant motifs and, in the openings, frames in limestone, with a characteristic "lambrecchini" frieze of Rococo style. On the sides of the entrance door there are two small oval openings and in the three parts, large windows with a mixtilinear frame surmounted by a shell-shaped frieze.
