Zacco Palace in Ragusa
The Palazzo Zacco is one of the most sumptuous p noble baroque alazzi in Ragusa .
It was built in the second half of the 18th century at the behest of Baron Melfi di Sant'Antonio, towards at the end of the nineteenth century the building was bought by the Zacco family from which it took its current name. The noble coat of arms on the corner of the building remains of the ancient owners, supported by little angels.
The building has two symmetrical elevations. Of great elegance is the entrance portal flanked by columns surmounted by Corinthian capitals. The columns support the central balcony closed by a grating decorated with large iron flowers. Of notable interest are the other balconies that bear shelves carved from masks and figures , representing scenes of life: a balcony has a grinning mask with a prominent tongue, with a strong and natural expressiveness; in a second balcony a siren is represented accompanied by musicians, as if to remember the magnificent parties that were held in the palace with illustrious guests, refined and sumptuous banquets, always new entertainment.
