Castelluccio e Castellaccio of Scicli
The Castellaccio and the so-called Castelluccio, also known as the "castle of the three cantons", rise on a rocky spur, bordered on three sides by three quarries of fluvial origin, known as hill of San Matteo, close to today's city of Scicli.
The Castellaccio seems to date back to the Norman age, while the original nucleus del Castelluccio is probably even older.
The complex consists of a central body of trapezoidal shape, dominated by the triangular tower, bordered to the east by a moat. The central body has an extension originally consisting of a simple large wall and subsequently enlarged with a second wall to form a triangular embankment. To the south-west the central body was annexed to a second body which in turn joined with an area bounded by walls which is believed to have a residential function.
