Piedigrotta Rock Church in Scicli
The Church of Santa Maria di Piedigrotta is located at the foot of a cliff at the bottom of the San Bartolomeo quarry in front of the "chiafura" ridge.
It was founded by a group of devotees in the early 16th century century and entirely dug out of the rock.
The church is accessed through a small portal. Inside there is an altar with markedly Baroque motifs preceded by two red columns resting on bases and surmounted by composite capitals. Above the altar, placed inside an arched niche, is the image of the Madonna della Pietà sculpted in painted limestone.
