Pino d'Aleppo Nature Reserve in Vittoria
The Pino d'Aleppo Nature Reserve is a protected natural area, an ideal destination for lovers of outdoor excursions and to observe the fauna that populates this protected area.
The Reserve includes the final part of the Ippari river. In the past, the river was used to transport the logs needed to create boats or to build the houses that stood at the mouth of the river, where the vegetation grew more luxuriant.
The most widespread flora in the reserve is the Pine d'Aleppo, characterized by a reddish bark and a thick crown. These specimens have a characteristic twisted appearance, determined by the wind action during their growth. Inside the reserve it is also possible to observe Ophrys exaltata, a rare species of wild orchid that grows spontaneously here.
Among the fauna present in the reserve there are numerous mammals, such as fox, rabbit and hare , and birds such as the goldfinch and the blackbird.
