Library in Bisacquino
Torres1986 - CC4.0
The municipal library of Bisacquino is one of the most important in the district.
The current structure was built in 1966 by Eng. Joseph Genovese. It has the architecture of a classical temple, preceded by Doric columns in precious marbles and has the clearly visible inscription "Biblioteca Comunale" engraved on the pediment, placing the symbolic representation of the radiant sun with the inscription clearly inspired by the Enlightenment.
Among the volumes of particular value kept in the library we mention: 171 Cincquecentine; 18 manuscripts; two incunabula printed in Venice in 1494 and 1498; a medical treatise by Galen entitled Galeni de affectorum locorum notitia libri VI, a precious volume, dated 1500, of which a second copy exists in the library of the British Museum in London.
