Selinuntino Civic Museum in Castelvetrano
The Selinunte Civic Museum of Castelvetrano collects the numerous artifacts found during the archaeological excavations conducted in the archaeological area of Selinunte . Among the numerous artifacts kept in the museum, of considerable value are: the Efebo , a rare bronze casting 85 cm high depicting a naked young man recently identified with the god Dionysus dating back to 480 BC; the “ lex sacra ”, a lead sheet on which a law from the 5th century BC is engraved in two inverted sections; an Attic crater with columns dating back to 470 BC; a Byzantine steelyard from the 5th century AD ..
In the nearby former church of the Augustinians there is also the permanent exhibition "Selinunte imagined " which collects reproductions of how travelers and archaeologists lived between the 18th and the twentieth century represented the ancient Greek colony.
