Kasbah in Mazara del Vallo
The Kasbah of Mazara del Vallo is the Arab quarter , one of the oldest in the city.
It was founded by the Arabs themselves in 827 AD, shortly after their arrival in Sicily. During their stay in Mazara del Vallo, the Arabs contributed considerably to the development of the city and embellished it with their art. The old historic center, once enclosed within the Norman walls, is characterized by the typical features of the neighborhoods with an Islamic urban layout typical of the medinas, the so-called Kasba, with narrow streets and colored majolica to act as a distinctive sign.
