Arancio Lake
The Orange Lake is an artificial basin built in 1949 thanks to the damming of the waters of the Carboj river.
When the water level drops you can see the ruins of the ancient Mazzallakkar fort, built by the Arabs in 830.
The lake, together with the adjacent Bosco della Resinata, whose flora is purely Mediterranean , has been transformed into a naturalistic oasis managed by Lipu, the Italian League for Birds. Given its position along the migratory routes, various species of birds stop here in spring and autumn, while in winter gray herons, cormorants, grebes, spoonbills, pochards and coots take refuge.
