Sanctuary of the Madonna del Bosco in Buscemi

The Sanctuary of the Madonna del Bosco in Buscemi is located on the San Nicolò hill, opposite the town.
The original structure, consisting of an ancient church and the adjoining hermitage, were completely destroyed by the 1693 earthquake. It remained miraculously unharmed the fresco of the madonna which was later incorporated into the new structure. Today the fresco is kept on the left wall of the sanctuary, made up of innumerable layers of plaster and pigments which, due to its colors and shapes, has been dated to the 16th century.
The Madonna del Bosco is the patron saint of Buscemi and is celebrated on the last Sunday in August, the summer celebrations are particularly felt by the citizens who organize solemn celebrations every year.
To visit the sanctuary it is necessary to contact the parish of the Mother Church.
