Necropolis of Cassibile
The Necropolis of Cassibile is located in the Contrada Cugno Croce, within the Cavagrande del Cassibile Nature Reserve , in the Cava Sant'Anna.
The necropolis, with its 2000 tombs, is the second most important Necropolis of the Sicilian period after that of Pantalica. It is made up of natural caves or artificial caves, datable to a period ranging from 1000 to 800 BC, which overlook the overhanging walls of Cugno Croce.
Inside the necropolis of Cassibile, numerous artifacts have been found, now kept at the Paolo Orsi Regional Archaeological Museum , such as elbow arch fibulae, and pottery. Other tomb complexes, more isolated, are inserted inside the following quarries; these are later tombs and almost all of them are chambered.
