The district of the Carceri Vecchie in Ferla, also known as the district of San Sebastiano, rises in the area adjacent to the church of the same name and includes a vast area that goes from Piazza San Sebastiano to the road axis formed by the Via Carceri Vecchie and Orto Peluso.
The peculiarity of this area, which was incorporated into the new city rebuilt following the earthquake of 1693, is the fact that it still has some aspects of its ancient medieval origins.
In In this district there are still numerous palaces from the medieval era, restored in the years following the 1693 earthquake, which overlook the narrow streets that make up the district. Some of them still retain a rupestrian character because they were built close to the eastern mountain ridge of Monte Rigoria.
