Alagona Castle in Francofonte
Only the ruins of two towers remain today of the Alagona di Francofonte castle which stood on the site where the Gravina-Cruyllas palace stands today.
The castle of fourteenth-century origin originally had two central towers surrounded by a large wall. In the space between the wall and the towers were the houses and the church of the castle. Eight more towers attached to the wall were added at a later time.
The 1693 earthquake razed the entire building to the ground. What has come down to our days are the ruins of the main towers.
Following the earthquake, the Gravina-Cruyllas building was built in the area where the castle once stood.
