The Church of the Annunziata Extra Terra in Francofonte is located at what was for centuries one of the most important access roads to the town.
It was built in 1512 but over the centuries it was periodically abandoned due to unhealthiness of the air, since the nearby Canali stream formed malarial ponds in that area.
It is not known what damage it suffered following the 1693 earthquake but the reconstruction date is dated 1695, placed on the key of the arch of the side portal , it is believed to be too close to that of the earthquake, to hypothesize a total reconstruction of the church.
The current appearance is due to the remodeling carried out in 1695 and in the 20th century, but it is still possible today to distinguish 16th-century elements.
The gabled façade is closed on the sides by Tuscan pilasters. In the center is the portal with a full center arch, surmounted by a large rectangular window.
