Villasmundo-Sant'Alfio Speleological Complex in Melilli
The Integral Nature Reserve Villasmundo Speleological Complex - Sant'Alfio di Melilli is located between the two small and deep river valleys of the Belluzza and Cugno di Rio streams, separated by a plateau.
The reserve is characterized by a karst system with courses of permanent water affecting a large part of the cavity and the important phenomenon of the formation of concretions localized in the branches long since abandoned by the flow of water, in which the presence of stalactites and stalagmites is found.
Being an integral reserve, the speleological complex is accessible only by qualified scholars, authorized by the managing body, for research purposes. The reserve on the surface has instead been made accessible through some structures and a short path that starts from the main entrance.
